The blades bent slightly and got nicks in them from trying to carve the wooden spoon blank that came with it. I had to sharpen the hook and all of the knifes, but I expected that. I was shocked that they didn't stand up to the "hard" wood that was sent with the kit. After a lot of TLC with my own wet stone (using what was in the kit didn't work) I can for it on soft wood no problem.I have big hands and most wood tools seem a little lacking in handle length. These fit perfect, easy to put a keen edge on after using a bit. Mostly fine work so I don't know if they hog wood or not but they work well in fine work.The blades started off sharp but chipped with use on basswood. They also involved a cut down to the fascia and a few stitches. I worked in a pathology lab for years and this wound made my stomach hurt. We took photos to remind us how fun wood carving is when you carve toward yourself with a chipped blade. My son will never live this down.This was such a good deal and it's super cool.i can't wait to start craving! I really like the carving set, thank youThey’re ok, I have a couple sets of these and of them these are the best ones I currently have. That doesn’t mean they’re perfect, they’re “ok” could be sharper, would prefer each piece wasn’t lacquered (I assume to prevent rusting?) because it requires work now just to use.They really sharp and have good grip on the handle. I used it for couple of hours in a week. Really happy with there qualityGarbage tools....... save money and buy a good set.
